Scout is a private field guide for the Two Dudes Photo crew. It is invitation only: an account works only if the email address is on our team list. There is no public sign up, no advertising, and no analytics business behind it. This page explains what the app stores and how to get rid of it.
Who this covers
People we have invited to the Scout app, which is our own team and the freelancers who work with us. Scout is not offered to the public.
What Scout stores
Your account. Your email address and display name, so the app knows who you are and other members can see who wrote what. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the email address you choose to share and nothing else.
What you post. Tips, leads, bounties, comments, reaction stamps and any photos you add. These are visible to everyone on the team, which is the entire point of the app.
Your profile photo. The picture on your profile. New members start with the headshot already used on our internal crew roster, and you can replace it at any time from your profile.
A notification token. If you allow notifications, an Apple-issued device token so we can send you the two things Scout notifies about: someone replying to your tip, and a briefing before a trip you are on.
Crash reports. Technical diagnostics through Sentry when the app misbehaves, so we can fix it.
Location
If you allow it, Scout uses your location for exactly one thing: sorting the city list by how far each city is from you, on your phone, as you look at it. Your location is never sent to our servers, never stored, and never shared. Decline it and the app simply sorts alphabetically.
What Scout does not do
No advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, no data brokers, and nothing sold or rented to anyone. Scout has no analytics SDK. Your information is not used to build a profile of you.
Who else can see it
Other members of your team, and the services that run the app: Supabase (database, sign in and file storage), Apple (push notifications and Sign in with Apple), Google (place search and publicly available place information) and Sentry (crash reports). They process this information on our behalf, and nobody else gets it.
Deleting your account
Open your profile in the app and choose Delete my account. That immediately removes your account, your profile, your photo, your badges and your notification token. Tips you contributed stay in the team's guide, credited to “Someone”, because the crew relies on that shared knowledge after people move on. If you want your posts removed as well, delete them in the app first, or email us and we will do it for you.
How long we keep it
For as long as you are on the team. When you leave, delete your account in the app or ask us and we will remove it for you.
Children
Scout is a work tool for our crew and is not directed at children.
